IMO breakage with the default Ruby version is an important issue, and if
possible we should fix it before the release. I am considering Redmine
for a project and would be willing to work on fix, but I would like some
help in reproducing the issue in the Redmine UI.

Jan, could you list some steps to reproduce this in an empty Redmine
installation?
