I made a samba bug report because perhaps there is a bug with "auto" case-sensitivity, or with the default settings. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=511744 However, fixing it at the samba server wouldn't really close this bug until all samba servers had migrated to a hypothetical fixed version.
