I don't have those files.  I was using
LC_MESSAGES=C LC_COLLATE=C LANG=zh_TW.utf8 LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.utf8
All I know is the problem happens only from .xsession
at _xdm start time_, and not from sh .xsession later.
Happens on both k7 and Intel machines.
In .xsession I do
(sleep 5 && nice -n 0 xterm -class UXTerm -u8 -rv -bg hotpink4 -title \
#UTF' -name '#UTF' -e sh -c su)&

Even less than usual.
Maybe I should check with
echo something
read
or just read -p, etc.
in a script I start in a shell window...
Well, each "xdm start" taxes the hardware, so I hate to test much.
