[Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#540613: hal: Confirm bug in my setup

Package: hal
Version: 0.5.13-2
Severity: normal

I was submitting a bug to NetworkManager but I investigated further
and found it to be a hal related. As said here, downgrading to 0.5.12
solves the issue. I am attaching the (incomplete) bug I was sending to
NetworkManager. Maybe the logs I have put there can be of some
assistance

Subject: network-manager: NetworkManager doesn't regonize wireless hardware anymore
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.7.1-1
Severity: important

Since my dist-upgrade on Sunday, 9th, NetworkMananger stopped recognizing
my wireless hardware.

lspci -v output:
01:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 02)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company BCM4311 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
	Memory at 51300000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
	Capabilities: <access denied>
	Kernel driver in use: b43-pci-bridge

I am using b43 kernel driver with b43-fwcutter. It works great using
commandline iwconfig, but when NetworkManager is started, it shows no
sign of the proper interface, just a killswitch:

budweiser:~# NetworkManager --no-daemon
NetworkManager: <info> starting...
/sbin/ifup: interface lo already configured
NetworkManager: <info> Found radio killswitch /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/ssb__null__rfkill_b43_phy0_wlan
NetworkManager: <info> (eth0): new Ethernet device (driver: '8139too')
NetworkManager: <info> (eth0): exported as /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_1b_38_80_94_01
NetworkManager: nm_device_wifi_new: assertion `driver != NULL' failed
NetworkManager: <info>  (eth0): device state change: 1 -> 2
NetworkManager: <info> (eth0): bringing up device.
NetworkManager: <info> (eth0): preparing device.
NetworkManager: <info> (eth0): deactivating device (reason: 2).

The last time NetworkManager detected the card was on August 9th:
lpereira at budweiser:/$ sudo grep -r "wlan" /var/log/* | grep b43
/var/log/daemon.log:Aug 9 13:16:07 budweiser NetworkManager: <info> (wlan0): new 802.11 WiFi device (driver: 'b43-pci-bridge')

(similar entries are found on syslog)

I don't know the cause, but these are the packages related to
network-manager that were upgraded on Aug 9th:

libuuid1 (2.16-2.1)
zlib1g (1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-15)
