Hi Bram,
a Debian user reported an issue related to symlinks and file locking.
Briefly: if a user open a file "a" and another one a file "b" which is a
symlink to "a", no warning is issued by vim and both are allowed to
editing simultaneously the same file.

What do you think of (recursively) following symlinks before attempting
to find the swap file name?

The full bug report is available here: http://bugs.debian.org/329826

TIA,
Cheers.
