alternatives for /usr/bin/vim

Again on this topic: what do you think guys of using the alternatives
system to get rid of the conflicts among the various vim-* packages?
Each vim-flavour package can install /usr/bin/vim.flavour and an
alternative for /usr/bin/vim, perhaps with higher priorities for more
featureful packages (i.e. vim-full > vim-gtk > ... > vim).

We already have in debian alternatives for /usr/bin/vi which can point
to /usr/bin/vim (which in turn will point to ...), but I don't think
this would be a problem.

Comments?

PS I frankly do not remember what was the idea implemented in old vim 7
   snapshots to get rid of the conflicts, but I'm willing to implement
   the above one directly in the vim 6.4 repo if noone objects.
