Actually it's terminfo - except for NetBSD, there's no current (past 10
years) platform that actually uses termcap other than for legacy support.
I don't know - what's your list for "supported platforms"?

none that I'm aware of (excepting of course, programs that hardcode "xterm"
into their scripts, of course).
