The default syntax for sh.vim is based on Bourne shell, which isn't
POSIX/SUS compliant.  This is an intentional move by the syntax file's
author to encourage people to set the shell syntax they're actually
using.

The rest of the problems you mentioned look valid.  I'll forward them to
upstream and see what he has to say about them.
