Are you referring to the visual highlighting of the text to be replaced
that happens in the non-tiny builds?

If so, that's definitely not a bug.  +syntax (from ":help +feature") is
only available when built with the Normal (or larger) feature set.
vim-tiny is built with the Small feature set.
