how then should a solution exactly look like? To my experience,
the asterisk H323 issues can be summarized as

* there are two channels h323 and oh323, where h323 might generally be
  considered as broken since it causes constant trouble, whereas
  oh323-0.6.4 generally works OK with the stable asterisk 1.0.* branch
* both modules depend on specific openh323/pwlib versions, which might
  differ from what other applications need. The question hence arises
  whether different versions of those libraries can be installed in a
  way to accommodate all apps.

E.g. I'm currently running a self compiled asterisk 1.0.5 on Sarge with
 oh323-6.0.4
 openh323 Janus patch4
 pwlib Janus patch4
and it works.

Isn't there a possibility to package that stuff?
