We're _not_ breaking backward compatibility. That is the very reason
I'm vehemently against removing /etc/init.d/wpasupplicant in the near-
term. Yes, eventually we'll remove the initscript, since we'll be over-
hauling the infrastructure anyway.

Your interpretation is incorrect. The previous version of postinst and
the ifupdown hooks from the newer merge-to-be (from Ubuntu) use
update-rc.d and invoke-rc.d, which are in the sysv-rc package. These
actions are clearly mandated by Policy. Only in cases where either does
not exist is the relevant script invoked directly.

The functionality in the initscript has mostly been rolled into
revision 50, but I, too, am in favour of retaining the initscript for
now.
