Currently ubuntu ships wpasupplicant 0.4.7, which is quite similar to
wpasupplicant to 0.4.7-4. I think we can sync this version to ubuntu
directly. Since ubuntu is currently in Upstream Version Freeze and
FeatureFreeze, we will most probably stay with this upstream version.

I suggest that we work on madwifi and madwifi-ng in our
wpasupplicant-0.5 branch. I will eventually investigate which changes
can go to the ubuntu package, if some are necessary.

Currently ubuntu ships with madwifi (the old one). I read that there are
plans to upgrade to madwifi-ng for dapper, there are even some test
packages available.

I'm very interested in having a wpasupplicant working with atheros chips
in ubuntu, so we (i.e. ubuntu developers) may have to patch the
wpasupplicant package in ubuntu when ubuntu switches to ubuntu. But I
don't know if nor when ubuntu switches. I will investigate this.
