Check that the backend names are in dll.conf.
Look through the documentation if there is some kind of debug messages
available. Default would be something like
"SANE_DEBUG_HPOJ=255 scanimage -L" but I seem to remeber that this
doesn't work for these backends.

If you don't get help here, ask on the mailinglists of these backends
for help.
