[sane-devel] Canon D530 / Prints, but doesn't scan

I recently bought this MF printer. Linux Mint 17.1 immediately installed
drivers. It prints well, despite a moment each time when a message comes up
saying trouble communicating with printer. However, I have not been able to
get it to scan. Initially, Simple Scan said could be found. After the
taking the advice of someone of the Mint Forum, the scanner is now
recognized, the error report trouble communicating with it. Pretty much the
same error with gscan2pdf. I am very much a newbie to Linux. Any help you
can offer to get the scanner working would be GREATLY appreciated. I am
dual booting with Windows Vista, and the scanner works fine. But, I really
want to use Mint instead.

Mint 17.1 32
Dual boot with Windows Vista.
Compaq Presario P.C. AMD Athlon X2 4450E

Below is a conversation from the Mint Forum that led me here. Hope it isn't
too long. :(

Thanks!

Steven

It is up to the user to decide if they trust that ppa or not, it is
designated as untrusted. That doesn't mean it is malicious.
https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/141780

The same goes for the link I posted from Canon company. I would consider it
to carry some weight because it comes from the manufacturer, but it is up
to the user.

I have followed through on your suggestions. The scanner is now seen. But,
in Simple Scan it says it has trouble communicating with scanner. In
gscan2pdf it says the printer is busy. So, some progress, but no scan yet.
Thanks for your continued help!

If it helps, I just ran sane-find-scanner -v and got:

This is sane-find-scanner from sane-backends 1.0.25git

# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.
