Well, we even have nobody working on 2.1 for unstable, so I very much
doubt we can imagine someone working on a 1.9 backport, I'm afraid.

It would be much much much more efficient to complete the work on 2.1
(which is lying in SVN waiting for ideas about database transition
handling in order to properly handle upgrades)...and then try
backporting it to squeeze.
