is using git a hard requirement for debian-science packages? (was: Re: Request to Join Project Debian Science)

http://debian-science.alioth.debian.org/debian-science-policy.html says "The
Debian Science Project has agreed to use Git as their preferred Version Control
System (VCS)." What does this mean exactly? How do Debian Science Maintainers
feel about it?

Imho it's good for the Debian Science project to include the four packages
I'll maintain. Furthermore, there currently are packages in debian-science
being maintained using SVN. My upstream uses SVN daily, and never uses git.

So: Should these four packages get imported in debian-science SVN?

Thanks, Bye,

Joost
