Oh, you are right, I didn't notice this bug yet. 

Hm, I'm not an experienced library maintainer either, but I'm willing to
learn about it. According to the ChangeLog, upstream intends to switch
to libtool anyway. So this problem will be probably adressed with the
next upstream version.

Do you think it makes sense to upload openal as is in svn in the current
state, and leave the RC bug open, or shall we upgrade to the latest
upstream 'release' (actually a newer svn snapshot packaged as tarball),
and address #352950 at once?
