CR lines stripping in debian/rules

Could you elaborate a bit on the need of stripping carriage returns in

Also, I remember gcc seldom had problems with such sources,
but this could well have been fixed in recent releases.

I agree, still it's just one line more in get-orig-source, and it comes
in handy if we decide to include external patches (e.g. Wolfmame).

Speaking of get-orig-source: is there any particular reason to define
so many make variables? It's a bit confusing IMHO.
