Package: gdesklets
Version: 0.26.2-6
Severity: critical
I have just installed gdesklets (+ gdesklets-data) for the first time.
When starting it from the GNOME menu, nothing happened. So I tried
again from a shell. This is all I get:
"Bonobo accessibility support initialized
GTK Accessibility Module initialized
gDesklets 0.26.2
Copyright (C) 2003, 2004 The gDesklets Team
This software is licensed under the terms of the GNU GPL."
Nothing happens. A "find . -name *gdesk*" gives me:
./.gconf/apps/gdesklets with the file ./.gconf/apps/gdesklets/%gconf.xml
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<gconf>
<entry name="profile" mtime="1093538473" type="string">
<stringvalue>default</stringvalue>
</entry>
</gconf>
Consequence: I cannot use gdesklets at all. What is wrong?
Kind regards
Andreas

Hi,
That seems to be the expected behaviour.
Please read the documentation before reporting non-bug as critical
issues ..
/usr/share/doc/gdesklets/README.gz:
" When you start 'gDesklets' for the first time, your desktop will
remain empty. 'gDesklets' is just a daemon running in the background."
(The part about the tray icon is wrong, I've turned it off in the
package.)
"gDesklets does not automatically start up any displays. To start up a
display, you should either put it on the gdesklets command line, or
else open your file manager and click on a .display file in order to
put that display onto the desktop. When you log out or quit =20
'gDesklets', the settings will be remembered for the next session."
I'm closing this bug report. Feel free to reopen if you think you have a
real problem with the package.
Thanks,
Sebastien Bacher
