Bug#308825: gdm hangs sometimes immediately after succesful login

Followup-For: Bug #308825

and before the 'debian' window appears, telling me what stage
the setup has reached.  When the gdm is so broken it consistently
hangs at this point.  I tried resetting it with 'ctl-alt-bs'
but to no avail, it remain stuck at the same place.
