You also see a marked increase in time for flushed output. (Comparison
with xterm is valid, but maybe not needed here: compare with other
terminals e.g. rxvt or rxvt-unicode also.)

With Debian sid I now have that version, but I did not see a great
improvement.

Unlikely this would be a font issue, as both flushed and un-flushed
output uses the same fonts. Please instruct what fonts should I try
(and how to change to them), and I will try.
