Package: gnome-settings-daemon
Version: 2.24.1-3
Severity: important
When starting the GNOME desktop environment, the desktop takes several
seconds to fire up and I'm getting an error dialog box stating that the
GNOME settings daemon can't connect to session bus. Furthermore, some
preferences aren't remembered (e.g. sound settings, screensaver settings).
The GNOME settings daemon seems to run properly:
2562 ? Rs 38:40 gnome-settings-daemon
Each time I logout/login, a new gnome-settings-daemon process is forked,
also eating as much CPU as it can.
Invoking gnome-settings-daemon from the command line gives:
** (gnome-settings-daemon:4429): WARNING **: Couldn't connect to session
bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked
the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
** (gnome-settings-daemon:4429): WARNING **: Could not get a connection to
the bus
** (gnome-settings-daemon:4429): DEBUG: SettingsDaemon finished
use-session-dbus is set in Xsession.options:

# See Xsession.options(5) for an explanation of the available options.

I'm not running SELinux on this system.
The following D-Bus and GConf related processes are running:
1992 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --system
2550 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/dbus-launch
--exit-with-session x-session-manager
2553 ? S 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session
x-session-manager
2554 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 6
--print-address 9 --session
2557 ? S 0:00 /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2
x-session-manager points to /usr/bin/gnome-session.
