I would before doing this put the question to a wider audience, e.g.
debian-devel. Adding more to /bin/ may have consequences e.g. in the
installer or other areas that we don't know about. Better check this to be
sure. You can put the message to d-d and we can meanwhile upload 1.4.10-1.
Once this has migrated to testing we may upload a new version if there's
been no objections to the proposal (that's around two weeks which should
be enough opportunity to comment).
