[Debian GNUstep maintainers] .bundle vs .app in binary package names

Some time ago I noticed that binary packages that were providing
GNUstep bundles (like Camaelon, WildMenus) were renamed from
foo.bundle to foo.app. I couldn't find any discussion about it. Was
it imposed by the ftpmasters, release team, etc?
I think it is wrong to name them foo.ap -- if foo.bundle is forbidden,
renaming them to just "foo" is better (but it may collide with other
packages, of course).
Could you please give some pointers/advice? Thanks!
