Thanks for the feedback, Chris. The purpose of those dialogs is twofold. Firstly they allow you to detect the mail loss situation, since a deletion on the server that comes as a surprise to you (is not one of the scenarios you describe seeing the dialog in atm) would likely be such a case. You could then, while the dialog is up, copy the debug output (~/.xsession-errors, or wherever your system puts it) up to that point into a mail to me, providing me with valuable information about what preceded this. Detecting unwanted deletions coming from the client during sync is much harder, otherwise I would have been able to fix the bug long ago. Secondly it allows you to copy away those mails into a backup folder, having declined the offer to delete them locally, in case the deletion is indeed due to a mail loss scenario. That way you at least avoid the mail loss as such.
