I only had the problem when I ran kmail with spamassassin on gentoo. I
stopped using it (kmail) since I couldn't afford to lose my mail. I hope
this helps.

------- Additional Comments From larry garfieldtech com 2006-09-27 04:35 -------
To my knowledge, I've never had data loss as a result of this bug. The first time I noticed it was when Debian Sid (my distro of choice) added the debugging code, which of course has now basically hosed my mail setup. :-( (I leave KMail running and use client-side filters over DIMAP to sort my 400 messages a day. The warning dialog prevents it from downloading any more mail, so it doesn't filter anything.)

The pattern for me seems to be any time there's a difference between my local copy and the copy on the server. 99.9% of the time, that's because something was just filtered into it. Eg, starting from fully synched, KMail checks for new messages and finds 15, 10 of which it filters into the Inbox/lists/list1 folder. The next time it checks for new mail, it sees that Inbox/lists/list1 has mail that the server doesn't, and whines at me that something was deleted on the server (false), in case I want to delete it locally.

I don't know what other information I can provide to help track this down. If there is any, let me know and I'll see what I can dig up, because this has rendered my mail setup nigh on unusable. (Not the bug, the debugging code. I want that gone!)
