Bug#639339: problem in iceweasel and cups?

Recently, when printing a map and directions from Google maps, I started
getting the same error in the cups log file, namely:

 prnt/hpcups/HPCupsFilter.cpp 511: cupsRasterOpen failed, fd = 0

The hardware is i386 (Thinkpad T60), printing to a HP PSC 2710
(inkjet/scanner/copier) using cups. The software is:

iceweasel 5.0-6
cups 1.4.8-2

If instead I first print the page to a .ps file (/tmp/map.ps) and then
print it with 'lp /tmp/map.ps', all four pages print fine.

If I print it to a pdf file, then print it with 'lp /tmp/map.pdf', then
just one page prints, and it contains a giant smear of red ink over the
whole printable area. There is no error in the cups log file.

I am attaching map.pdf. It views fine in xpdf.

Thus, I think there is a problem with cups, but I don't know how to
diagnose that problem because there is no error in the log file. There
may also be a problem with iceweasel generating something that cups
cannot handle. That may be an iceweasel problem, if the pdf or ps that
it generates is bogus. Or it may be another, separate cups problem.
