    That's not a dpkg option I'm familiar with and so didn't take into
account...

    I have the package installing them as examples in order to keep the
distribution versions of the files separate from the actual versions of
those files in use (and editable) by the application.  With the current
and (hopefully) upcoming changes in how those directories can be
configured, I can see that going back to installing them with the main
application could work, and still be able to keep the working set of
files separate.
