I also run XMonad (albeit from source) and don't think I've been able to
reproduce this. Sometimes input to a certain application running within
GNU screen (typically mutt) appears to stop, but I've always been able
to switch (C-a-n) to another screen window, so at least input partially
works.

Next time it happens, could you please check ~/.xsession-errors see if
there's anything of interest?

Michal, what perl extensions are you using? Patrick appears to be using
tabbed and matcher (based on #631793), would you by chance be using one
of those two?
