Regarding SMS by using asterisk

Depending on what you are trying to do, Asterisk may not be the best 
tool for the task.  Asterisk do have some support for connection with 
cellphones and SIP does have support for messaging, but they are not 
"first grade citizens" of the tool/protocol.

When I work with sms I use kannel.  There are other tools too, but 
kannel is IMO the best one when sms is the central service to handle.
