i am willing to do this.

it is difficult with the current shootout since minibench is doing a lot 
of differnet things, in ways that are not flexible. i think (and i might 
be wrong) that a lot of valuable information is available from the 
curent shootout. both what works, and what does not work. from these it 
would be possible to design a better shootout.

so, insead of startingt to build a replacement right away i belive a 
disscusion would be a good prerequisit.
