The aptitude GTK+ frontend has been a mixed bag. It started off on
the wrong foot: Arthur didn't start seriously working on it until mid or
late June due to other commitments, and he didn't finish learning the
underlying libraries and start writing code for the final version until
the middle of July. We've made decent progress since then, but we had
to scale back the project goal to just covering the basic package
management functions (presenting package information to the user and
letting them change package states).

However, the last few weeks have been a bit more productive, and I'm
happy with the progress that we've made since the midterms. It's maybe
not quite as far as it could have gotten, but one of the reasons it went
a bit slowly in the last few weeks is that I've been doing a lot of
review of Arthur's code and asking him to adjust it in places where I
think that it needs improvement. As a result, I think that this code
will be suitable for merging into aptitude HEAD once SoC is done (perhaps
with some trivial fixes, such as adding options to allow the user to
start the curses interface). Arthur says he's interested in continuing
to work on this project, and I also want to make it happen, so hopefully
it will continue to develop and become usable.

  Daniel
