If you have arrived to this conclusion after testing on the real people
who are the target of your code, then it is OK. You are better placed
than me to judge this.
Just make sure that these changes only takes effect when in
accessibility mode and tuxtype continues behaving as before in regular
mode.

Sorry, please forgive this, I've misread one of yours messages and
wrongly assumed that the number 6 was in use in your brailler
emulator :(

This stills holds true, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout
to get an overview of different keyboard layouts.
We need a way to allow people use the brailler emulator in different
keyboard layouts.
