Please attach the full log and the debootstrap.log (which is created if
debootstrap fails with output). My working logfile is attached, run in
a jessie VM using vmdebootstrap from backports. Snipped logs are
largely useless.

vmdebootstrap has a series of tests available, including build tests,
which can be run from the source. However, the version of cmdtest in
jessie needs an update to use the updated syntax.

$ sudo apt -t jessie-backports install cmdtest
$ sudo yarns/run-tests

To run tests without the builds, there are options for just the fast
tests which are run on ci.debian.net.

$ sudo yarns/run-tests --env TESTS=fast

https://ci.debian.net/packages/v/vmdebootstrap/unstable/amd64/

I wouldn't expect the fast tests to fail but bugs and failures in
debootstrap are unlikely to be due to vmdebootstrap itself.

When repeating the tests, please use a primary mirror (as in the
attached log) rather than a local url.
