Initial Comment:
axel should be able to overwrite existing output files.

Reasining:

Now axel is not a good choice for automated downloads (e.g. invoked from a package manager),
because if the downloaded "file-x.y.z.tgz" has a checksum error, the invoking program would make a new download attempt and axel will save the new download as "file-xy-z.tgz.N". The invoking program would then check again the original broken "file-x.y.z.tgz" and go into endless loop or fail after it reaches the allowed attempts limit.
