Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.6.2-3
Severity: normal

Since a recent upgrade to gnome-session, I experienced a problem wherein
clicking the gnome-terminal button on my panel would launch a terminal
window which would then immediately exit. Clicking a second time
succeeded.

This behavior has been fixed by creating a ~/.gnomerc with the following
contents:

	exec /usr/bin/gnome-session --purge-delay=0

I assume the reason is that the first terminal window requires a
gnome-terminal-factory to start up before being created, whereas the second
window already has a gnome-terminal-factory to work from, so appears
faster.

In addition, the README.gz of the openoffice.org package states:

If you experience OpenOffice.org startup problems (most notably
while using Gnome) please 'unset' the SESSION_MANAGER environment
variable inside the shell you use to start OpenOffice.org. This can
be done by adding the line "unset SESSION_MANAGER" to the beginning
of the soffice shell script found in the "[office folder]/program"
	directory.

This problem is also fixed by the same .gnomerc file, as noted in
discussion on the OpenOffice bug tracking system here:
