Dan, you indeed reported two "bugs" in this bug report....

Being prompted for your passwd when "newgrp your_group"=A0: this is the
same than #166173 and #113191. You probably didn't belong to your own
group in gshadow. I got the same behaviour until I added myself to my
own group.

newgrp segfaulting in an emacs shell window=A0: can you reproduce this?
I can't on my system.
