[Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#406272: dot local woes

Hi

Struggling with the so called dot local problem. Have a machine on a
small network running Debian Etch RC. Everything works fine except that
it's impossible to get avahi-daemon running. The startup script stops
with the error message regarding a "unicast domain .local". The domain
used to be .local but I've changed it to .int without success. There is
a functioning internal DNS-server that resolves all names (checked with
nslookup), the "host" file contains the right machine name and ip but
still cannot get the avahi-daaemon to start. Have not found any
information on how the startup script tests for .local. I've also tried
editing the nsswitch.conf according to the instructions regarding the
dot local issue but this doesn't help either. I suspect this is a bug.

The machine is fully "apt-get upgraded".

Cheers,

Bengt Walerud
