 I talked with the udev maintainer, Marco, and he said current udev
 should have supported 2.6.11, but didn't really support it, by mistake.
 The package is currently in a broken state, since no 2.6.12 kernels are
 in sid yet.  Marco is confident that a 2.6.12 will hit Debian soon,
 since "dilinger" is talking of an upload in the next days.

 It's not nice to have so tight kernel dependencies.  I think it's up to
 GNOME to decide whether they continue support on udev + magicdev, or
 only on udev.  As long as they support both, we can do the same, and I
 think we should.
