Ah, right. I'll pass this on to upstream to get it resolved.

I do not disagree with that. :-) Mailman upstream is mainly focussed 
on "Mailman 3", which should (...) alleviate quite some of these problems. 

Unfortunately it seems like meanwhile bugfixes on the 2.1.x branch are 
stalled.
