Please make sure your packages are debhelper compat 6

That is not necessary.

I build just fine by hosting everything on Etch with only backports of

svn-buildpackage --svn-dont-clean

Also, I use pdebuild instead of pbuilder directly, so I pass
--use-pdebuild-internal to pdebuild.
