It's really been more a question of time and timing.  I simply haven't 
had adequate time to devote to the jabber related packages.  Most of the 
original transports went dead upstream shortly after they were packaged 
for Debian.  Transition to the newer python packages would have taken 
far more time than I could find to devote to it.  I am happy that the 
new versions are being picked up by others.
